Own It: The Way Back

In The Way Back, Jack Cunningham is a high school basketball phenom who walks away from the game and gives up a promising future. As time passes, Jack experiences a traumatic event causing him to abuse alcohol, leading to the downfall of his marriage. Barely making it through life working and drinking, Father Edward Devine approaches Jack to return to his alma mater and become the boy's high school basketball coach. Jack accepts the coaching role, and a story of redemption begins to unfold for Jack and his players. In this clip, Jack tells his team how all the little things add up and make them hard to beat.

Why was Jack stressing about the little things? It's because his team didn't know it or, worse, had forgotten it.

But isn't that the temptation - to live for the dunks and buzzer-beaters of the highlight reel and neglect the little things? We want to follow Jesus well, but skip prayer time. We want to be great husbands, but neglect dates. We want to be the best dad, but choose more work on the weekend. The list could go on and on.

So men, remember to keep those little things close to you. Remember to keep sight of loving God with all your heart and loving others too. When we own those little things, they add up to the big things we want to see.
