Man Motivation Message 4

Strength: Hacksaw Ridge

The strength to go one more. The scene opens up with Desmond asking God what he should do next. Everything seems to be falling apart around him. The Japanese advancing, bombs going off, his team retreating over Hacksaw Ridge to regroup and fight another day…. He keeps leaning into God asking him what God wants him to do. He says “God, I don’t understand, I can’t hear you.” Does he bail and retreat like the rest of his team or does he stay? Sitting there being still, he hears a faint yell, a call for help. He knew he had to run back into the hellfire to rescue that man. What seemed to start from conviction to save one man, led to be so much more as now his strength and endurance came into play. Not just a physical strength and endurance, but a spiritual one as well. As soon as he rescues one, he finds another…and another. This pushes him way past his physical limits as he prays after each one saved, “Please God, help me save one more.” He prays this every time, over and over again, because he knew this wouldn’t be possible on his own ability. Instead he asked God to direct his steps and impart his strength into him. By leaning into God, he was able to access a strength he didn’t know he had. Maybe knew was possible, but was never required to go there before.
How about you? Now most of us haven’t had to pull a dying brother out of gunfire to save his life. But your life still has its own challenges and setbacks, sometimes taking you to a place where all you have left is to cry out to God. Have you ever had to call upon a Godly strength like that? Have you ever been so vulnerable that you knew it couldn’t happen under your own strength, that you physically and mentally had nothing left? When you learn to tap into that kind of strength and you feel it, it truly is something special. When you have a strength like that, nothing can stop and no mountain big enough can stand in your way.
